Harare– Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona has inspected progress on the Cloverleaf Interchange at the intersection of Harare Drive and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Road, a project aimed at decongesting the busy Airport Road corridor leading to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
The upgrade, part of the government’s “Kilometer by Kilometer” infrastructure drive, is expected to reduce travel times, ease bottlenecks, and improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, according to ministry officials.
Speaking during the site tour recently, Mhona described the development as a long-overdue improvement for the capital’s road network. He credited President Emmerson Mnangagwa for prioritising infrastructure upgrades nationwide and said the project aligns with the government’s goal of building modern transport links.
“The focus is on delivering roads that work for people and support economic activity,” Mhona told reporters. He added that the ministry is committed to ensuring the project meets quality standards and delivers value to the public.
The ministry also revealed that the Cloverleaf Interchange will enable the construction of 9 additional interchanges along the Glenara stretch and related routes, a move expected to further ease congestion across Harare.
Mhona was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Engineer Joy Makumbe, heads of state enterprises, and other senior ministry officials.
