Tinotenda Hove – The opposition party Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) has expressed skepticism over the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s announcement that the country achieved single-digit inflation in January 2026, urging transparency and scrutiny of the policies behind the claim.

In a statement released on Monday, FFC president Michael Makaza acknowledged the milestone but stressed that statistical indicators alone may not reflect the economic reality for ordinary Zimbabweans.

“We question whether single-digit inflation truly reflects improved living standards for ordinary Zimbabweans or merely a statistical adjustment,” the statement read.

The party called for clarity on how the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency and other monetary policies are impacting citizens’ daily lives, particularly regarding affordability and access to essential goods and services.
“Economic policies must prioritize the welfare of all Zimbabweans, not just statistical targets,” Makaza said.

The FFC also outlined key demands for government action, including:
Economic inclusivity – ensuring that policies benefit marginalized groups and the working class.

Transparency – clear communication on how monetary policies affect ordinary citizens.
Sustainable growth – focusing on long-term economic stability and job creation.
The opposition party reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a Zimbabwe where reported economic achievements translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

“The FFC remains committed to a Zimbabwe where economic achievements translate into real improvements for its people. A luta continua… Freedom Fighters for Change #WeMove,” the statement concluded.

Michael Makaza, president of FFC and Pan-Africanist, emphasized that the party will continue to monitor government policies closely to ensure that economic statistics reflect genuine progress for all Zimbabweans.
