Tinotenda Hove – Four people died instantly and four others were injured after a bus swerved to avoid a pedestrian and collided head-on with a truck on the Harare–Masvingo Road in the early hours of May 13, 2026.
Zimbabwe Republic Police said the accident happened around 1:30 a.m. at the 220 km mark. A 60-seat Asian Star bus traveling from Masvingo to Harare veered into the oncoming lane while trying to avoid a pedestrian.
“The bus encroached into the opposite lane and struck a Mercedes-Benz Atego truck carrying two people,” ZRP said in a statement. “After the impact, the bus left the road, overturned and landed on its side. The truck then hit the pedestrian.”
Police confirmed that the truck driver, both passengers in the truck, and the pedestrian died at the scene. Four passengers from the bus sustained injuries and were taken for treatment.
“The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post-mortem,” ZRP added.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
