False Death Rumours Debunked As Dr Thokozani Khupe Confirmed Alive

Tinotenda Hove – Deputy Prime Minister and MDC Vice President Thokozani Khupe has been confirmed alive following the circulation of false social media reports claiming that she had died.


Change Radio issued a correction on Thursday after initially publishing the incorrect information. The media platform said it had verified the matter with CCC officials and established that the reports about Dr Khupe’s death were untrue.


“Following verification with CCC officials, we confirm that the information was false and that Dr Khupe is alive,” Change Radio said.
The outlet clarified that the deceased individual was actually Thokozani Hove, a former MDC member, who reportedly died after battling cancer.


“The individual who has passed away is Thokozani Hove, a former MDC member, who reportedly died after battling cancer,” the statement read.


Change Radio also apologised for the confusion and distress caused by the erroneous report.
“We extend our sincere apologies to Dr Khupe, her family, colleagues, supporters, and our audience for the distress and confusion caused by the erroneous post,” the publication said.
The false reports had quickly spread on social media before being corrected.
