Tinotenda Hove – Local Government Minister and Mrehwa North MP Daniel Garwe is facing mounting pressure amid growing claims that his political ground is weakening, with revelations pointing to deep divisions and dissatisfaction within the constituency.

Sources say what is being portrayed by Garwe’s allies as a “plot” to unseat him is, in fact, a reflection of growing resistance to his leadership style and political positioning. Critics argue that the influx of money and heightened political activity in the constituency exposes frustration with an MP many now accuse of prioritising party loyalty over the everyday struggles of ordinary people.

At the centre of the controversy is a prominent Apostolic leader whose family member is actively campaigning in the area. While Garwe’s supporters have rushed to label this as vote-buying, community voices say the situation highlights a loss of confidence in the sitting MP rather than mere opportunism.

Some senior party members privately concede that Garwe’s rigid political posture and unwavering alignment with certain power centres have alienated sections of both the party and the electorate. “People are tired of leaders who hide behind slogans of loyalty while communities remain underdeveloped,” said one disgruntled party insider.

Residents in Mrehwa North say they are increasingly uncomfortable with being lectured about gratitude and loyalty when basic services remain inconsistent. “They keep telling us he is loyal to the President, but loyalty does not fix our roads or put food on the table,” said a villager who asked not to be named.

Others accuse Garwe of arrogance and detachment from grassroots realities. “He comes when it suits him and disappears when we raise difficult issues,” said another resident. “Leadership is not about power or positions, it is about accountability.”

Within party circles, murmurs are growing that Garwe’s rising profile has more to do with internal patronage than tangible delivery on the ground. “He has influence, yes, but influence without humility creates enemies,” said a local official. “What we are seeing now is the consequence of ignoring the people’s voice.”

As political temperatures rise in Mrehwa North, calls are increasing for party leadership to take a hard look at the situation. For many residents, the unfolding drama is less about money or factions and more about a demand for leadership that listens, delivers and respects the electorate rather than taking it for granted.
