By A Correspondent -The National Assembly is scheduled to vote on Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill this Thursday afternoon, moving the contested legislation to its final stage after it cleared the Committee Stage with amendments on Wednesday.

The Third Reading will precede the vote on the Bill, which proposes changes to several provisions of Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution. While government says the amendments are aimed at improving governance and efficiency, critics have raised concerns over the pace of the process and the scope of the proposed changes.

Legal analysts and civil society groups argue that some clauses could weaken checks and balances, particularly around parliamentary oversight and judicial appointments. They also point to limited public consultation during the Committee Stage, where amendments were introduced.

Supporters of the Bill maintain that the changes are necessary to address practical challenges in implementing the Constitution. However, opposition MPs have questioned both the timing and the urgency of the amendments.

If approved by the House, Constitutional Amendment No. 3 will mark the latest in a series of revisions to the 2013 charter. Thursday’s vote will signal whether concerns raised during debate have shifted positions in Parliament.
