Tinotenda Hove- Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again grabbed the spotlight after announcing a lavish US$200,000 package for young dancehall chanter Junior Spragga, in a public display of wealth that is likely to reignite debate over his high-profile generosity.

In a statement on Monday, Chivayo showered praise on the young musician, describing him as a product of the ghetto whose talent was too significant to ignore.

Chivayo admitted that he did not even know the musician’s full names, but said Junior Spragga was rapidly making an impression through his performances.

“I may not know his full names yet 😂😂, but the name JUNIOR SPRAGGA is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore,” Chivayo said.
He went on to describe the artist’s performances as evidence of “GENUINE, RAW AND UNDENIABLE TALENT”, while portraying the musician’s rise as an example of how talent can overcome humble beginnings.
“As a YOUNG BOY FROM THE GHETTO, I am extremely proud of you,” Chivayo said. “YOUR BACKGROUND DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR DESTINATION.”

However, the businessman’s message took an extravagant turn when he announced that he would buy Junior Spragga a house worth US$150,000 and provide an additional US$50,000 towards furniture.

“My little brother JUNIOR SPRAGGA, ini ndini BIGGER PREACHER anova ndiye BABA WE MARUDZI saka please go find yourself a house of your choice worth 150 thousand USD immediately and I will pay for it without delay,” Chivayo declared.

He further promised to fund the musician’s furniture and interior design.
“I will also gladly buy you selected furniture of your choice worth 50 thousand USD and pay your interior designer to complement this gesture and make sure you move in ASAP,” he said.

Chivayo described the enormous package as merely “my small token of appreciation” for the entertainment provided by the young artist.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of Chivayo’s increasingly conspicuous public philanthropy, with his large financial gifts to celebrities and other public figures frequently generating both admiration and criticism.

While supporters may view the gesture as genuine empowerment of young talent, the scale and highly publicised nature of the donation are likely to raise questions about the culture of extravagant handouts and the growing influence of wealthy individuals in Zimbabwe’s entertainment sector.

Chivayo urged Junior Spragga to remain focused and continue developing his career.
“DON’T LOOK BACK, YOUNG MAN!!! Keep recording, keep performing, keep improving and keep making those crowds GO WILD,” he said.

He concluded with another emphatic message to the young musician: “JUNIOR SPRAGGA…THE FUTURE IS YOURS!!!”
