Chitungwiza – Chitungwiza Municipality has announced the death of Councillor Tarisai Chikukwa, who served as Chairperson of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Committee.

Chikukwa, who was elected to the council through proportional representation in 2023, reportedly passed away yesterday.

The municipality described her as a dedicated public servant who championed digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving the ease of doing business and integrating council systems .

During her tenure, she led the ICT Committee on a benchmarking visit to the Econet Data Centre in Highlands to strengthen the municipality’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

“We hope to work together with the diversified telecommunications group to improve our ICT systems as we journey towards our smart city vision. It is the beginning of great things to come,” Chikukwa said during the visit.

The municipality praised her humility and collaborative nature. Her death comes as Chitungwiza advances its “Smart Heritage City by 2030” vision, which includes digitalising services through online platforms and integrating systems such as the Local Authorities Digital System (LADS) and Sage Pastel 200 Evolution .

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
