Bulawayo — The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has rejected correspondence circulating in the public domain and apparently delivered to Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda, Senate President Hon. Mabel Chinomona and Local Government Minister Hon. Daniel Garwe, purporting to recall certain public representatives.

In a statement issued Friday, CCC interim national spokesperson Nqobizitha Mlilo said the purported recalls have “no factual, political, or legal basis” and do not represent the party’s position.

“We have consistently maintained that our current trajectory is defined by party reconstruction, institutional renewal, and structural consolidation,” Mlilo said. “Recalls of elected public representatives are not a political weapon of choice for this leadership.”

The party said its governance framework is anchored on consensus building, institutional cohesion and stability.

Preliminary internal investigations have identified specific individuals behind the correspondence, CCC said. The party accused them of pursuing a long-standing aim of using recalls as “a tool of extortion and coercion to force false allegiance from elected officials.”

According to the statement, if the individuals fail to secure compliance from public representatives, their ultimate objective is to destabilise the party from within through rumour-mongering and divisive behaviour.

CCC said the conduct may amount to contempt of court. Legal counsel has been briefed and appointed to advise the party on the appropriate course of action, and the forthcoming legal advice will inform political and administrative measures meant to “permanently resolve this infraction.”

The party sought to reassure its public representatives, stakeholders and the general public that disciplined officials must continue to discharge their constitutional mandates with “absolute certainty.”

“Their tenure remains secure up to at least 2030,” Mlilo said.

He added that the leadership remains focused on nation-building, administrative excellence and constructive engagement.

“We will not be distracted by elements who possess an exaggerated sense of self-importance and seek to advance narrow self-interests,” he said.
