Tinotenda Hove – A 20-year-old man who had recently benefited from a Presidential Amnesty has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after committing another crime just days after his release.
Benjamin Manyangadze was convicted by Kwekwe Magistrate Naison Dhambuza last Thursday for stealing a vehicle, cash, and other valuables only nine days after regaining his freedom.
His sentence includes an additional one-year term that had previously been suspended following a similar offence in 2023, effectively increasing the total punishment.
The court also ordered Manyangadze to pay restitution amounting to US$2 800 to the victim, Tawanda Godfrey Magure.
According to court findings, the incident occurred on March 11, 2026, around 5 PM in Redcliff. Manyangadze unlawfully entered Magure’s residence while the homeowner was away and made off with a Peugeot vehicle (registration number AGY 1389), US$1 800 in cash, a Tecno mobile phone, and other belongings.
The theft was reported to the police after Magure returned home and discovered the break-in and missing property.
