Tinotenda Hove – Citizens leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has praised opposition activist Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba veShanduko, describing him as a symbol of resilience and commitment to the citizens’ struggle following his release from prison.

Madzibaba veShanduko was arrested by authorities last year and was acquitted earlier this week after spending months battling charges in court.

In a statement released on Friday, Chamisa said he was delighted to welcome Karembera and his family to Harare, applauding his unwavering dedication despite facing persecution.

“A HERO’S WELCOME… It was a pleasure to welcome Citizens’ Hero, Godfrey Karembera, affectionately known as Madzibaba veShanduko and family, to our offices in Harare.

A loyal, committed, and dedicated cadre, he remains steadfast and determined in the pursuit of a New Great Zimbabwe within our lifetime,” said Chamisa.

The former opposition leader also thanked citizens and welfare groups who assisted Karembera’s family during the difficult period.

“We extend our profound appreciation to the Citizens Welfare Bureau and to all the citizens who supported and contributed to his family’s welfare throughout this difficult period of persecution. Your solidarity and generosity have been truly inspiring,” he said.

Chamisa concluded the message by encouraging continued citizen mobilisation, adding: “The citizens are organizing. #Chapwati #NewGreatZimbabwe”
Karembera’s acquittal has been welcomed by opposition supporters, who view his release as a morale boost for activists pushing for political change in Zimbabwe.
