Tinotenda Hove – At least 10 people lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident involving a pirate taxi and a haulage truck near Suswe along the busy Harare–Nyamapanda Highway, raising renewed concerns over road safety and the dangers of illegal transport operators.

The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon when a Honda Fit, operating as a pirate taxi, was involved in a head-on collision with a haulage truck.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying initial findings indicate that the Honda Fit was overloaded at the time of the collision. He noted that the impact resulted in multiple fatalities at the scene.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident, while motorists have been urged to exercise caution and avoid using pirate taxis, which often disregard traffic and safety regulations.
