Tinotenda Hove – Zvimba South Member of Parliament Taurai Dexter Malinganiso has raised concern over the growing influence of certain artists and social media personalities on Zimbabwe’s youth, accusing them of promoting drug and substance abuse.
Speaking recently in Parliament under a point of national interest, Malinganiso singled out musicians Malloti and Hulengende, alleging that their performances feature explicit language and content that encourages harmful behaviour.
He warned that such trends are contributing to the erosion of societal values, particularly among young people who often look up to entertainers and influencers.
Malinganiso also expressed concern over what he described as the normalisation of drug use on social media platforms by individuals with large followings.
“I rise to present a matter of profound national importance which speaks not only to governance but to the moral fabric and social direction of our nation,” he said.
The lawmaker called for greater accountability among public figures, stressing the need to safeguard the country’s ethical standards and protect the youth from negative influence.
