Sports Correspondent -Zimbabwean female boxer Monalisa Sibanda says she is waiting patiently for her next chance to return to professional fighting.

Sibanda’s last bout was in August 2025 against Malawi’s Ruth Chisale, where she lost on a unanimous points decision. Since then, life has settled into a routine of family, church and daily responsibilities. But she insists the sport is still very much part of her.

“I’m still in,” Sibanda said when asked about her current routine. She noted that training has continued as usual, balanced with time for her family and church duties.

While she is not making any fight announcements yet, Sibanda stressed she will be ready if an opportunity comes.

“I also train for the sake of my health,” she said, explaining that boxing has become a key part of her discipline and lifestyle.

The veteran fighter is also thinking beyond her own time in the ring. She said she hopes to stay involved by mentoring young boxers once she steps away from competition.

“I want to help groom future champions,” she said.

That passion for the sport is already being passed down at home. Sibanda’s eldest son, Andy, is now training alongside her.

“We train together,” she said.

According to Sibanda, she has taught him the fundamentals she picked up over years of fighting.

“I imparted into him the basic skills,” she explained. Whether he pursues boxing full-time, she added, will be up to him.

On his talent, she was brief but proud.

“He is very good,” she said. However, she was quick to add that she does not want to say too much about his progress yet.

“I do not want to reveal much about him. I want to guide and protect him,” she said.
