Tinotenda Hove-The death toll from the Kariba RIDA tragedy has risen to 84 following the recovery of four more bodies from the lake on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that the latest recoveries had brought the number of confirmed fatalities to 84.

“The ZRP reports that the death toll is now 84 after the recovery of four bodies from the lake this afternoon,” police said.

The police said search and rescue operations were continuing as authorities worked to locate people who remain unaccounted for.
“Search efforts are still under way in a bid to recover victims identified as missing,” the ZRP said.

The latest developments come as emergency teams continue combing the lake in an effort to recover the remaining victims.
