Tinotenda Hove – Farming communities in Guruve have been plunged into renewed terror after a suspected serial killer allegedly claimed two more lives on Thursday, pushing the death toll from a string of brutal attacks in the district to 10.
Police confirmed that a 55-year-old woman and a six-month-old infant were killed at Farm 88 in Nyakapupu. The latest victims were found with head injuries, heightening fear among residents already reeling from earlier murders.
Authorities have identified 32-year-old Anymore Zvitsva as the prime suspect and have intensified a manhunt involving drone surveillance, canine units, horse patrols and specialised tactical teams following a spate of killings earlier this week.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and appealed for public assistance. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating the brutal murder of an elderly woman aged 55 and a six-month-old infant at Farm 88, Nyakapupu, Guruve on 18th December 2025,” he said.
In a bid to accelerate the suspect’s arrest, police have announced a cash reward for information leading to Zvitsva’s capture. The reward was pledged by Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba, who urged members of the public to come forward with any useful information.
“Anyone who gives the information will certainly be rewarded,” Comm Nyathi said, adding that tip-offs can be made through the National Complaints Desk or at local police stations, including the Guruve Police District.
The latest killings follow the gruesome murder of five members of the same family on Sunday night at Ona Mapeto Farm in Ward 21. The victims included a 66-year-old grandmother, her adult son and daughter, and two young grandchildren. A neighbour who responded to screams reportedly found one of the victims still alive, but he later died in hospital.
Zvitsva is also being linked to the earlier murders of Pamela Chipangura (39) and her two children, Kudzai and Tawanda Chipangura, in Zimuna Village, further deepening anxiety in the district.
In a community notice issued alongside the manhunt, Comm Nyathi urged families and neighbours to be alert to individuals showing signs of mental instability. “The public is urged to notify the nearest health facility, social welfare office, or Police Station so that such individuals can be referred to qualified professionals for treatment and support,” he said.
As the search enters a critical phase, Guruve remains on edge, with residents living in fear as authorities race to bring the violence to an end.
