By A Correspondent – Zimbabwe is set for unsettled weather over the coming days, with thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds expected in several parts of the country between September 29 and October 1, 2026.
In a weekend statement, the Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe warned that isolated thundershowers could develop in different areas, accompanied by periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and gusty winds.
The department said the conditions could create hazards for communities, livestock, property and agricultural activities.
Members of the public have been urged to take precautions whenever thunderstorms occur, including moving indoors, avoiding open areas and keeping away from isolated trees that could be struck by lightning.
People have also been warned against crossing or approaching flooded rivers, streams and other fast-moving water bodies because of the dangers posed by rapidly rising water levels.
Farmers have similarly been advised to exercise caution during storms and temporarily stop activities in exposed fields. The authorities specifically urged farmers to avoid operating tractors and other machinery when thunderstorms are overhead.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development has called on farmers to treat the initial rains as an opportunity to prepare rather than an immediate signal to begin planting.
Farmers have been advised to establish whether rainfall is becoming consistent enough and whether sufficient moisture has accumulated in the soil before putting seed into the ground.
The ministry urged farmers to closely track rainfall, inspect soil moisture and rely on official meteorological and agricultural updates when deciding when to plant.
Authorities said early preparation, water conservation and careful monitoring of weather conditions would be important in protecting agricultural production, livestock and rural livelihoods as Zimbabwe enters a period of potentially volatile weather.
The public has therefore been encouraged to follow official early-warning messages and take appropriate action whenever severe weather develops.
