Tinotenda Hove- A popular car cleaner from Mucheke Suburb was killed instantly after being struck by a Toyota Dyna truck while walking home from Masvingo town on Monday night.

The deceased, Lovemore Malunga, sustained serious injuries to his head and face in the fatal collision, which occurred at about 9:40pm near DA Service Station along Charumbira Road.

Malunga was a familiar face at Masvingo Central Police Station, where he regularly cleaned vehicles for police officers. He was also well known around Police Rendezvous, including Police Bar Room 7.

Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident.
Dhewa said the truck driver lost control after hitting a depression on the road, causing the vehicle to swerve into Malunga’s path.

“The driver of the truck hit a depression, forcing the vehicle to swerve and thereby hitting Malunga,” Dhewa said.

Malunga died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver remained at the scene until police officers arrived and was subsequently charged with culpable homicide on Tuesday morning.
