Tinotenda Hove – A Rusape businessman has died after being run over by his own vehicle in a tragic incident that occurred at his home in the Crocodile suburb.

The deceased, Morris Majiri, who owned Staunch Hardware in Rusape, was driving his Nissan Caravan when the vehicle became stuck in a ditch near his residence. He reportedly stepped out to assess the situation, but the car suddenly rolled forward.

According to a witness, the vehicle pinned Majiri against a water meter slab. “He had gotten out to check the car, and suddenly it moved forward while he was standing in front of it,” said a resident familiar with the incident.

Majiri’s tenant, Isaac Kudzanai, rushed to the scene after hearing screams from passengers who were inside the vehicle at the time.
“I heard people shouting and ran outside to see what was happening. I managed to reverse the car to free him,” Kudzanai said.

Majiri was taken to Rusape General Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged. However, his condition deteriorated several days later due to internal complications.

On 16 January at around midnight, Majiri’s health worsened while he was at home with his wife. He died before arrangements could be made to return him to hospital.
A post-mortem examination revealed that he had sustained severe internal injuries, including damage to a kidney and a ruptured lung.
Majiri was laid to rest on Monday morning at Silverbow Cemetery in Rusape.

Following the incident, safety experts reiterated the importance of taking precautions when stopping a vehicle, particularly on uneven ground. “Drivers must always engage park and apply the handbrake to prevent unintended movement,” one expert warned.
