Tinotenda Hove- Close associate of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, Tazvi Mhaka, has delivered an emotional tribute to the late businessman, describing him as a man who lived boldly, transformed lives and left behind a lasting legacy.
Chivayo died on Wednesday in a helicopter crash near Marondera alongside his wife, Lulu Muteke, and three other people.
In a heartfelt message published on Friday, Mhaka reflected on Chivayo’s life, achievements and the influence he had on people around him.
“A life well lived. Dreams achieved. Lives changed. The game changed. The bar raised,” Mhaka wrote.
He said Chivayo’s greatest achievement was not necessarily the wealth he accumulated, but the impact he had on those around him.
“My friend, you leave this world empty, not because you had nothing, but because you poured everything into living. You dreamed boldly, lived fully, opened doors and gave wholeheartedly,” Mhaka said.
Describing Chivayo’s journey as a “true story of rags to riches”, Mhaka argued that his most significant form of wealth was the number of lives he touched.
He also reflected on the inevitability of death, saying Chivayo’s passing should prompt people to consider the legacy they leave behind.
“In the end, none of us is coming out of this life alive. ‘Rufu Harusekanwi.’ Death is the one appointment none of us can escape,” he wrote.
Mhaka said the value of a person’s life should be measured by the difference they make rather than simply the number of years they live.
“The real measure of a life is not how long we stayed, but what remains when we are gone,” he said, asking whose lives had been improved because of Chivayo’s presence.
While acknowledging that Chivayo lived for only 45 years, Mhaka said the late businessman achieved what many might struggle to accomplish over a much longer period.
“Some people live 100 years and leave little behind. You had only 45, yet the dreams you achieved and the impact you made could fill a century. You truly lived,” he wrote.
Mhaka thanked Chivayo for the opportunities and inspiration he said the businessman provided, while pledging to continue pursuing his friend’s vision.
“Thank you for everything, my friend. Thank you for opening doors and showing us what was possible. I promise to keep your dreams and vision alive,” he said.
He concluded the tribute by saying Chivayo’s influence would continue through the people whose lives he affected.
“Great people never truly die. They live on through the hearts they touched, the doors they opened and the lives they changed,” Mhaka wrote.
“Rest well, my brother. You came. You lived. You gave. You conquered.
He ended the emotional message by bidding farewell to Chivayo, whom he affectionately described as the “African Giant”.
“Sleep well, African Giant. 🕊️ Wicknell Chivayo”
