Tinotenda Hove- Stacy Macheso, daughter of legendary sungura musician and Orchestra Mberikwazvo frontman Alick Macheso, has come to her father’s defence following comments and speculation surrounding his hairstyle.
Responding to the remarks on Wednesday, Stacy dismissed claims that her father had undergone a perm, explaining that his current hairstyle was simply a result of his natural curls being styled backwards.
“Pamusoroyi, vanaBaba, madziBaba!
“Asi vanhu munopenga here? Hanzi, Stacey, imbomira kuPerma Baba neDombo musoro!
“Kuya hakusi kuPerma, iya iPush Back, vakakama vachienda kumashure. PushBack!
“Hakumborina Perm yakadaro. Havana kumbo Perma. Ehe vhudzi raDaddy vangu rine maCurls. Havana kumboPerma. Ehe vhudzi raDaddy vangu rine maCurls. Saka vakaisa fell rinobva raita kunge raPermwa.”
Stacy said there was nothing unusual about her father changing his appearance, pointing out that Macheso has experimented with different hairstyles throughout his career.
“Aaah vakomana! Kunge mazviona zvinyowani chiiko? Aaah pamusoroi mhani. Plus iArt. Ndo inonzi Art manje iyoyo. Munhu saArtist une Art rako wega,” she said.
She also reminded critics that Macheso has worn different hairstyles dating back to his days with Khiama Boys, including an Afro and later dreadlocks.
“Plus mukuita kunge matanga kuona Daddy vangu vane vhudzi nhasi sei? Pavaitoridza kuKhiama Boys vakange vaine Afro. Vakange vaine Afro, even his old pictures. Vakanga vaine Afro, then 2011, 2010, vakatomboita maLocks. Vakatomboita maLocks mumusoro.”
Stacy said her father has always been comfortable with expressing himself through his appearance and urged people to stop treating his hairstyle as something extraordinary.
“But izvozvi varukwa musoro, you guys mukushamisika kuti Daddy vangu vagara ne musoro wavo, vanoita zvavanoda. Musadaro imimi!”
She also addressed comments about Macheso’s slow manner of speaking, saying it was part of his personality and linked it to a stammer he had when he was younger.
“Plus matauriro aDaddy vangu ndivo matauriro avo guys! Baba vangu vanototaura mbichana mbichana zvekutoti kana usina patience ka, zvinotokubhowa. Ndo zvavari.”
According to Stacy, Macheso used to stammer when he was younger but gradually learned to control his speech.
“Because he was once a Starmer. Vakamboita nguva yeku starmer. Pavaitokura vaitokakama. Even brother yangu inonzi Tatenda anekakukakama so. Ndozvaiita Daddy.”
She said Macheso eventually learned to manage the stammer by speaking more slowly.
“But with time akazo master kuti kukakama uku, kutaura slow hakunzwike. But dai kunzi dai kwakanga kuri kunzi vaitaura fast maitonzwa kuti vanokakama.”
Stacy concluded by appealing to people to be more respectful when commenting on her father’s appearance and mannerisms.
“Hazvisi chii, kana kuti zvekutaura venanhu. Iiii, guys, musadaro, it’s not nice.”
