Tinotenda Hove – July 1, 2025 — Citizens movement leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Baba Mutandiri, the father of long-time ally and activist Munjodzi Mutandiri, during a somber gathering in Mhondoro. The visit was part of a broader gesture of solidarity and compassion, reflecting the enduring bonds within Zimbabwe’s pro-democracy movement.
Speaking on Tuesday, former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba confirmed the visit and praised the elder Mutandiri’s legacy.
“Yesterday in Mhondoro (with citizens leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa) to pay our final tribute to the late Baba Mutandiri, father of Munjodzi Mutandiri,” said Siziba. “We were there honoring his legacy and offering condolences to the family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
Baba Mutandiri is remembered as a humble yet principled figure who quietly supported the cause for democratic change and stood by his son through years of political struggle. His home became a safe space for many young activists and political organizers over the years.
Chamisa, known for his deep regard for grassroots leaders and community elders, expressed his grief during the visit, describing the late Baba Mutandiri as “a silent pillar of strength in our struggle for freedom and dignity.”
