It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we receive the sad news of the passing of His Excellency Raila Amolo Odinga — a true son of Africa, a fearless democrat, and a steadfast friend of Zimbabwe.

Seven years ago, Raila Odinga mourned the passing of his dear friend, the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai, describing him as “a champion and a distinguished political leader of the Second Liberation of Zimbabwe.” Today, the same words fittingly describe Raila himself — a towering figure who dedicated his life to the struggle for democracy, freedom, and justice in Kenya and across the continent.

Raila Odinga was more than a Kenyan statesman; he was a pan-Africanist whose compassion and solidarity transcended borders. To us, the people of Zimbabwe, he was a friend, a comrade, and a father figure. Because of his friendship with Morgan Tsvangirai, he became part of our struggle, part of our hope, and part of our dream for a free and just society.

As we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived — a life of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy. Go well, Baba Raila. Rest in Power, Son of Africa. Go and tell your brother Morgan Tsvangirai that we still need your spirit in Zimbabwe.
