The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed as false claims circulating on social media that they have authorized illegal demonstrations planned by the country’s detractors.
In a statement, Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi clarified that the ZRP has not issued any such statement. He said, “The information being spread is false, and those behind it are attempting to destabilize peace in the country.” He further urged citizens to continue with their daily activities without fear of disturbances.
“The public should remain calm and carry on with their business as usual,” Nyathi added. He also warned that the law would take its course against anyone found guilty of inciting violence through the spread of false information online. “Those who promote violence by spreading falsehoods on social media will face the full wrath of the law,” he stated.
Citizens across Zimbabwe have expressed growing frustration with the ongoing economic difficulties under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime. One local resident, identified as Chipo Moyo, stated, “The government promised to fix the economy, but things have only gotten worse. People are suffering, and there is no hope in sight.” Another citizen, Tafadzwa Mutasa, added, “The cost of living has skyrocketed, and we can’t even afford basic necessities. I believe this government has failed its people.”
