The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reiterated that the situation in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD) remains calm and normal, dismissing claims circulating on social media about unrest and road barricades at Robert Mugabe Square.

In a statement issued recently, the ZRP clarified that reports suggesting people were blocking roads with stones in the city center are entirely false. The police emphasized that the area, along with the rest of the CBD, continues to function as usual, with no disruptions or signs of disorder. “The situation in Harare CBD is normal and calm, including at Robert Mugabe Square,” the statement read.

The ZRP also issued a stern warning against the spread of misinformation, urging the public to disregard false claims. “The public should ignore calls by individuals and syndicates through some social media sites to engage in unlawful public gathering activities,” the police stressed.

Additionally, the police addressed the issue of old videos being circulated on social media, which could contribute to unnecessary panic. “The Police warn social media sites against the circulation of old videos with the aim of causing alarm and despondency in the country,” they added.

The ZRP’s reassurance comes as the nation remains on high alert for potential disturbances, but authorities are adamant that the situation in Harare is under control and peaceful. The police have called on citizens to remain vigilant, avoid engaging in any unlawful activities, and report any suspicious behavior to ensure public safety.
