Zanu PF is focusing its efforts on securing a victory in the upcoming Glen View South by-election, scheduled for April 12. This election comes after the untimely passing of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament for the constituency, Grandmore Hakata. With the race now on, Zanu PF is determined to capture the seat and strengthen its political presence in the area.
On Wednesday, Zanu PF’s National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, made a strategic visit to Glen View South, underscoring the party’s commitment to securing the seat. The primary objective was to rally support for the party’s candidate, Tsitsi Tawomhera, as they prepare for the electoral contest.
Speaking at the event, Machacha highlighted the significance of Zanu PF’s ongoing development initiatives in the constituency. One such initiative is the drilling of a borehole at Glen View 3 shops, which was part of the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme, an initiative introduced by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. The scheme aims to address water shortages in rural and peri-urban areas by providing access to clean water.
“Today, we are here to witness the fruits of our President’s efforts, and this borehole is just one of the many projects that have been implemented to improve the livelihoods of people in Glen View South,” Machacha said. “We are proud to show the residents that Zanu PF cares about their well-being, and this is just a part of our larger plan to uplift the community.”
Joining Machacha on his visit were several notable figures, including Harare Provincial Minister, Tavengwa, and Presidential Advisor Dr. Tungwarara. The group, which also included senior officials from Harare Province, took part in the event, reinforcing the party’s united front and its intent to rally the local electorate.
This by-election is not just about filling the vacant seat left by Hakata but also represents a broader political contest for influence in Glen View South. Zanu PF’s efforts in improving local infrastructure, such as the newly drilled borehole, are seen as key tools in winning over the electorate. As the campaign heats up, it remains to be seen whether Zanu PF’s initiatives will be enough to secure a victory for their candidate, Tsitsi Tawomhera, or if CCC will retain its hold on the constituency.
The outcome of this by-election is likely to have broader implications for both parties as they approach future electoral contests in Zimbabwe.
