Zanu PF Youth League leader Taurai Kandishaya has sought to downplay the recent warning issued by war veteran Blessed Geza to President Emmerson Mnangagwa regarding potential manipulation of Zimbabwe’s constitution.
Geza, a consistent government critic, warned Mnangagwa against taking any actions that might weaken the constitution, emphasizing that citizens could eventually remove him from office if he fails to uphold the rule of law.
In response to Geza’s strong statements, Kandishaya dismissed his concerns as irrelevant and disconnected from the current government initiatives.
“Since wakamirira signal yaGeza, imboresponder to the following signals,” Kandishaya said during a speech on Tuesday.
He proceeded to highlight several government initiatives designed to support young Zimbabweans, such as the Zimbabwe Youths Council, which is helping young people establish businesses.
“Zimbabwe Youths Council varikuvhurira youths macompany,” Kandishaya pointed out, referring to the council’s efforts to create opportunities for youth-led businesses.
He also mentioned that the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) is providing young farmers with walking tractors to support their agricultural endeavors.
“AFC irikupa maWalking tractor wozobhadhara mbichana mbichana,” Kandishaya added, suggesting that these initiatives were part of the government’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment.
Kandishaya continued to emphasize government actions, mentioning that applications for presidential scholarships are open, and the Ministry of Lands is accepting applications for land, which he framed as vital opportunities for youth participation in national development.
“Land application at the Ministry of Lands, and Munhumutapa youths housing scheme,” he said.
The Zanu PF youth leader also addressed critics of the ruling party’s wealth accumulation, asserting that these youth initiatives were designed to lift people out of poverty. “Kindly respond to the above signals wangu, ndodzakapfumisa vese vaunoti vakapfuma nemusangano,” he urged, asking critics to recognize the tangible steps being taken to improve the lives of Zimbabweans.
Kandishaya’s remarks appear to be an effort to dismiss Geza’s call for constitutional respect by focusing on the government’s practical initiatives, which he believes demonstrate the ruling party’s commitment to national progress.
