Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has launched an investigation into Highlanders Football Club amid allegations of corruption linked to player transfers and possible financial mismanagement.
Speaking on Thursday afternoon, ZACC spokesperson Ms Simiso Mlevu confirmed the development, saying the matter had officially been brought to the Commission’s attention.
“ZACC confirms receiving a report of a case of corruption involving Highlanders Football Club and investigations are ongoing,” said Ms Mlevu.
“However, we cannot divulge any further details at the moment.”
ZACC officials were seen at the club’s offices in Bulawayo earlier in the day, reportedly conducting preliminary inquiries as part of the initial phase of the probe.
While club officials declined to speak publicly about the visit, a source familiar with the situation said the investigation is focusing on a number of questionable player transfer deals and concerns over how club finances have been managed in recent months.
“There have been red flags over some transfers that didn’t follow due process, and there are questions over how funds have been used lately,” the source claimed.
The ongoing investigation has stirred concern among supporters and stakeholders, as the revered club now finds itself under scrutiny from the country’s top anti-graft body.
