Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwean music scene is mourning the loss of legendary guitarist Clancy Mbirimi, who passed away on Saturday.
Tributes have begun pouring in, with fellow guitarist Clive Mono Mukundu among the first to honour Mbirimi’s legacy. Mbirimi was a prominent figure in several local bands, including the renowned Harare Mambos Junior and the celebrated Mbare Trio.
During his time with the Harare Mambos, Mbirimi shared the stage with musical greats such as the late James Chimombe, Dave Ndoro, and Tony Gumbo.
He is remembered for writing memorable tracks like Rufaro MuZimbabwe and Buhera, which featured on the Harare Mambos’ only album.
Mourners are currently gathered at his family home at 4 Mlambo Road in Mbare.
