Veteran Zimbabwean broadcaster Ezra Tshisa Sibanda has quashed rumors of his death circulating on social media, calling the prank “in bad taste.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, Sibanda expressed his dismay at the false reports, saying:
“I have been alerted by friends, colleagues, and family to a post that is trending on social media claiming that I have died. The statement is even accompanied by my picture stolen from my page.”
Sibanda reassured his fans and followers that he is alive and well, stating:
“The truth is, by God’s grace, I’m still alive and in good health.”
He condemned the perpetrators of the hoax, describing them as “desperate” individuals seeking attention:
“While it might be a form of April Fools’ joke by whoever coined it, the truth of the matter is that it is in bad taste. There are plenty of Facebook characters out there who are so desperate for attention and won’t stop at anything while seeking relevance and chasing after likes.”
Sibanda urged his followers to disregard such fake reports, emphasizing:
“These imbeciles cannot and should never joke about death. Only deluded followers of such social media pages will keep following them, let alone read these fake and unauthentic profiles.”
He concluded his statement with a message of gratitude and blessing:
“Have a good day, and God bless you #ezratshisa4life.”
