Tinotenda Hove – UFC welterweight fighter Themba Gorimbo has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic passing of renowned Zimbabwean fitness coach and karate master, Sensei Mugove Muhambi. Muhambi died in a devastating head-on collision on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the local martial arts and fitness community.
Taking to social media, Gorimbo paid an emotional tribute to the late sensei, describing the close bond between Muhambi and his brother, Lowson, as “real love.”
“Very few brothers I’ve met had a bond like these two,” Gorimbo wrote. “I feel for Lowson and feel for Sensei Mugo family. You were so proud to wear my UFC jersey even when it was hot. Rest in power Mukoma Mugo. Upenyu ma1.”
Gorimbo, who has risen from humble beginnings in Zimbabwe to the global UFC stage, shared how Muhambi’s loyalty and spirit had inspired him. According to close sources, Muhambi had been a visible supporter of Gorimbo’s fighting career, often proudly donning his UFC merchandise during public events.
The late Sensei was known not only for his martial arts prowess but also for mentoring young athletes in Zimbabwe, advocating for discipline, resilience, and physical fitness. Friends and former students described him as a “pillar of strength” and “a true warrior with a gentle heart.”
As tributes continue to pour in, many have called for the legacy of Sensei Mugove Muhambi to be preserved through youth training initiatives and support for martial arts development across the country.
