Tinotenda Hove– Police in Gwanda have arrested a 33-year-old woman, Sandra Mpofu, in connection with a brutal murder that took place at Gwakwe Mine on 29 July 2025.
According to police reports, Mpofu allegedly struck Washington Ndlovu (53) on the head with a log following a heated misunderstanding. Ndlovu sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Gwanda Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, 30 July 2025.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest, with investigations underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police are also investigating a murder in Makhandeni Village, Lupane, which occurred on 31 July 2025.
In this case, Dumezweni Mpofu is accused of stabbing 23-year-old Crispen Moyo multiple times on the back and right arm. The attack was reportedly sparked by suspicions that Moyo was involved in a romantic affair with Mpofu’s girlfriend.
Police say the suspect fled the scene after the attack, and a manhunt is currently underway.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to report signs of domestic or interpersonal violence before they escalate into tragedies.
“These acts of violence are deeply disturbing. We appeal to the public to seek help or intervention before resorting to deadly force,” said a police spokesperson.
Both cases have sent shockwaves through the Matabeleland region, raising concerns over rising interpersonal violence and the urgent need for conflict resolution initiatives in local communities.
