Tinotenda Hove – In a landmark moment for Masvingo Urban Ward 7, residents are rallying behind Tsungai Mandati, popularly known as Mai Masimba, the only female candidate in the upcoming by-election set for September 13, 2025.

The poll follows the death of Councillor Tafara Masimba in July.

Mandati’s candidacy has ignited conversations about women’s empowerment in a political arena long dominated by men. Community members and local leaders say her campaign represents a chance to shatter barriers and strengthen women’s voices in local governance.

She has pledged to prioritize community development, social welfare, and programs that uplift women and youth.

“I understand the challenges faced by women in leadership, but I believe our community is ready for inclusive representation,” Mandati said.

Observers believe her campaign could become a benchmark for female participation in politics across Masvingo province and beyond. A win, they say, would mark a significant step toward gender equality in local leadership.

With voters increasingly recognizing the importance of women’s perspectives in decision-making, Tsungai Mandati’s campaign is being closely watched as a potential milestone in Zimbabwean politics.
