Tinotenda Hove – The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has launched a nationwide road safety awareness campaign ahead of the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, urging motorists and passengers to exercise extreme caution on the country’s roads.
Speaking on Friday, the TSCZ said the Heroes and Defence Forces Education and Enforcement Road Safety Awareness Campaign was already in full swing. The initiative has brought together the TSCZ, CIMAS, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the Road Motor Transport (RMT), the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID), and the popular DJ Ollah 7 Podcast for a collaborative effort to save lives.
“Road Safety Heroes: Vigilant, Alert, Alive. Safety First: There is No Second Chance,” the TSCZ emphasised in its campaign message.
The campaign comes as traffic volumes are expected to surge during the long holiday weekend, a period often marred by fatal accidents. The TSCZ said their aim is to instill a culture of responsibility among road users through education, awareness activities, and enforcement of traffic laws.
“We are calling on all Zimbabweans to travel safely and arrive alive. Road safety is a shared responsibility — together, we can make a difference,” the council said.
The events feature interactive engagements with drivers and passengers at various checkpoints, distribution of educational materials, and partnerships with media personalities to spread the message to a wider audience.
The TSCZ’s campaign is running under the hashtags #RoadSafetyHeroes, #TravelSafely, and #ArriveAlive.
