A deadly mine collapse in the early hours of Saturday, 12 April 2025, has claimed three lives and left six others injured at Bere SP Mining Syndicate in Village 1, Boss Mine, located in Mashava, Masvingo Province.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the tragic event, stating that the collapse occurred around 3:00 AM when the mine shaft the workers were in gave way unexpectedly. The sudden failure of the structure trapped several miners underground.

Three miners died at the scene, and their bodies were later taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem procedures. The six injured victims were also transported to the same hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety standards in artisanal and small-scale mining operations, which are frequently criticized for inadequate regulation and poor working conditions.
