Stop Harassing Citizens, FFC Party Leader Michael Makaza Challenges Zanu PF

Tinotenda Hove – Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) leader Michael Makaza has accused the ruling Zanu PF party of betraying its election promises and unleashing injustice on ordinary citizens, following the arrest of 143 commuter omnibus touts, commonly known as Mahwindi.

Speaking on Sunday, Makaza said the government had turned its back on the very people it once claimed to support.

“Fellow Zimbabweans, we gather today with heavy hearts, bearing witness to a grave injustice,” he said. “The same government that once introduced Mahwindi as a vital part of our transportation system has now turned against them. 143 Mahwindis, who toiled tirelessly to make ends meet, have been arrested and jailed for simply doing their job.”

Makaza accused Zanu PF of breaking its election pledges.

“The promises made during elections were clear: vote for Zanu PF, and no one would remove them from their livelihoods. But the reality is starkly different,” he charged. “Families are being torn apart, livelihoods are being destroyed, and the very people who were promised protection are now suffering.”

He warned that the arrests would have a devastating ripple effect on communities.

“How do they expect these families to survive? 143 families will struggle to put food on the table, to feed their children, and to make ends meet. This is unacceptable. This is not the Zimbabwe we want to build.”

Makaza urged citizens to unite against what he described as systemic injustice.

“That’s why the Freedom Fighters for Change is rising up,” he declared. “We’re calling on all Zimbabweans to join us in our fight for justice, for equality, and for freedom. Join us on September 13, 2025, in Harare, as we launch our movement and declare our determination to create a better future for all.”

The FFC leader’s statement, accompanied by hashtags such as #JusticeToAll, #FreedomFightersForChange, and #WeMove, signals a growing political confrontation ahead of the party’s official launch next month.
