Tinotenda Hove -The quiet corner of 11 Frank Johnson Avenue in Eastlea, Harare has turned into a national talking point as shocking allegations of sexual assault involving social media figure Mai Jeremaya unfold in court. The venue at the center of the case—Paradise Guest Lodge—is now under the microscope, with many questioning what really transpired within its walls.

The lodge, which markets itself as “Harare’s premium choice for private, discreet getaways,” is where Mai Jeremaya alleges she was raped by two men, Thabo Blessing Dube (27) and Martin Charlie (25). The pair were arrested and brought before the Harare Magistrates Court earlier this week. Despite the severity of the charges, prosecutors did not oppose bail, and the accused were released on Wednesday.

Mai Jeremaya made the unusual decision to publicly reveal herself as the complainant, speaking directly to her followers in a now-viral video. “I want people to know what happened to me,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion. “I trusted them. They made me feel safe, and then everything changed.”

The alleged incident took place at Paradise Guest Lodge, a location now drawing skepticism for its reputation and clientele. Online listings describe the property as a short-stay guesthouse offering WiFi, hot showers, and secure parking, with rates starting at $20 for daytime use and $25-$30 for overnight stays. Some locals refer to it simply as “Number 11,” a nickname that hints at its popularity for fleeting visits.

A source familiar with the lodge described it as “a place people use when they don’t want to be seen or leave a trace.” This perception has raised broader questions about safety standards and regulation within Harare’s hospitality sector.

Public opinion remains divided, with some supporting Mai Jeremaya’s courage to speak out, while others call for a more thorough investigation. As the legal process continues, the truth about what happened that night at Paradise Guest Lodge remains clouded in uncertainty.
