Tinotenda Hove – A high-profile American trophy hunter, Asher Watkins, 52, met a tragic end in South Africa when a Cape buffalo he was tracking turned on him during a hunting expedition.
According to Coenraad Vermaak Safaris (CV Safaris), which organized the trip, Watkins — a millionaire ranch broker from Texas — was in Limpopo province alongside his guide and a tracker, following what they described as a prized 1.3-ton Cape buffalo.
Reports indicate the animal had not been wounded but was becoming increasingly restless. Moments later, it charged at a speed of around 35 mph, goring Watkins and killing him almost instantly.
Cape Town-based freelance journalist Jamie Pyatt noted that the incident underscores the inherent dangers of big-game hunting, even for seasoned enthusiasts.
