Tinotenda Hove – Police are investigating a tragic fire incident that claimed the life of a security guard at Gazaland, Machipisa in Highfield, Harare, on 11 August 2025.

The victim, identified as 39-year-old Francis Jeimani Mlambo, was reportedly taking shelter inside a kombi when the vehicle caught fire. The blaze quickly spread, engulfing the kombi and destroying six other scrap vehicles in the vicinity.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, saying investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire.

“The circumstances leading to the outbreak are still under investigation,” said police. “We urge members of the public to exercise caution around potential fire hazards, especially in areas where vehicles or flammable materials are stored.”

Witnesses in the area described the scene as “chaotic and tragic,” with thick smoke and flames consuming the vehicles before firefighters could contain the blaze.

The police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in the investigations to come forward.
