The Easter and Independence holidays saw a significant spike in road traffic accidents in Zimbabwe, with 384 incidents reported – a stark increase from the 286 accidents recorded during the same period in 2024. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and prioritize road safety.
“Too many lives are still being lost on our roads,” the police said in a statement. Despite a slight decline in fatal crashes, with 21 incidents in 2025 compared to 26 the previous year, the number of injuries surged. “Twenty-four people lost their lives on the roads in 2025, down from 27 fatalities last year,” the police revealed, adding that 178 people were injured this year, up from 159 in 2024.
The police are appealing to drivers to be more responsible, especially during holidays when traffic volumes are higher.
“We continue to appeal to drivers to exercise extreme care and responsibility, especially during holidays when traffic volumes are higher,” they emphasized.
