Tinotenda Hove – A man who had been evading capture for nearly three years after escaping from prison has finally been arrested, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from Marondera apprehended 38-year-old Hillary Chiduwo on May 1, 2025. Police spokespersons said Chiduwo had been on their radar for multiple serious offenses.
“He was being sought by the police in connection with three cases of unlawful entry into premises and theft,” said ZRP in a statement issued Friday. “He also escaped from lawful custody after fleeing from Chikurubi Prison Farm on 24 May 2022, where he was serving his jail term.”
According to authorities, detectives tracked Chiduwo to his mother’s home in Chipipiro Village, Wedza, where he was arrested without incident.
Police commended members of the public for their cooperation and urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activity.
