Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five family members who tragically lost their lives in Gudhuza Village, Zvishavane, after inhaling toxic fumes from a charcoal brazier (mbaura) used overnight for warmth.
The incident occurred on the night of 20 July 2025, when the victims reportedly brought the brazier into their bedroom to keep warm during cold weather.
The deceased have been identified by their next of kin as Jeremiah Simango (42), John Ncube (57), Nigel Ncube, Denzel Simango (15), and Joedire Simango (8). Their bodies were taken to the Zvishavane District Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities have since warned the public against the dangers of using charcoal braziers in poorly ventilated rooms.
