ZANU PF Youth League official Taurai Kandishaya has sparked widespread outrage in Zimbabwe after claiming that the country’s economic hardships are not caused by government mismanagement, but rather by family spirits haunting citizens.
Kandishaya’s statement, which has been widely condemned, suggested that Zimbabweans’ suffering is a spiritual issue, not a political one. He implied that the hardships faced by citizens are a result of being haunted by spirits from their ancestral homes.
Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youth assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma responded sharply to Kandishaya’s remarks, calling them absurd. Chuma emphasized that Zimbabwe’s crisis is a result of poor governance and looting of resources by ZANU PF, not spiritual issues.
Kandishaya’s comments have intensified growing discontent among Zimbabweans, who are enduring an economic crisis characterized by high inflation, unemployment, and poor public services. Critics argue that Kandishaya’s statement deflects responsibility and insults the intelligence of ordinary citizens.
The controversy has raised questions about the ZANU PF leadership’s ability to address the country’s pressing issues. It highlights ongoing tensions within Zimbabwe’s political landscape as citizens demand accountability from their leaders.
