Tinotenda Hove – Opposition party Freedom Fighters for Change has strongly condemned the ZANU PF-led government over what it describes as the gross harassment and economic suffocation of vendors and informal traders across Zimbabwe.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, the party criticised recent government crackdowns on informal economic activities, including the banning of second-hand clothes and vending in various urban centres.

“How do they expect us to survive?” the party asked. “The government bans the sale of second-hand clothes and vending, leaving millions without a way to make ends meet. With a 90% unemployment rate, this is nothing short of suffocation.”

The statement comes amid growing frustration among informal traders, many of whom depend on street vending and the sale of second-hand clothes, popularly known as mabhero, for their livelihoods.

“We need opportunities, not oppression. Freedom Fighters for Change is calling on all Zimbabweans to join us in paving a new future. A future where everyone has a chance to thrive, not just survive,” the party added.

The Freedom Fighters for Change also used the occasion to announce the official launch of their political movement.

“Join us on September 13th, 2025, as we launch our movement and take the first step towards a brighter Zimbabwe,” read the statement.

The party ended its message with a rallying call to citizens under the hashtags #WeMove, #FreedomFightersForChange, and #NewZimbabwe.
