Tinotenda Hove – Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) leader Michael Makaza on Monday paid tribute to Zimbabwe’s fallen heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, calling on citizens to honor their sacrifices by fighting for a just and prosperous nation.
Makaza delivered his message during commemorations marking 45 years of independence, praising the bravery of those who laid down their lives for the country’s freedom.
“My fellow Zimbabweans, today, we gather to honor the heroes who fought for our freedom, our dignity, and our nation,” he said. “We remember the sacrifices they made, the blood they shed, and the tears they cried for us to be where we are today. Forty-five years of independence, and we still celebrate their legacy. Though some of our brothers and sisters lie in foreign lands, unmarked and unremembered by many, their sacrifice will not be forgotten. We will keep their memory alive, and we will continue to fight for the Zimbabwe they envisioned.”
Makaza said the liberation struggle was not only about ending colonial rule, but also about building a country where every citizen could live with dignity.
“Their struggle was not just for liberation, but for a nation where every Zimbabwean could live with dignity, where every child could access quality education, and where every family could live without fear of oppression,” he said. “As the President of the Freedom Fighters for Change, I pledge to keep their legacy alive. We will not let their sacrifices be in vain. We will continue to push for a Zimbabwe that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all.”
In closing, Makaza delivered a passionate rallying cry to the nation.
“To our heroes, we say: we remember you. We honor you. And we will keep fighting for the future you envisioned for us — a future where our economy thrives, where our children receive quality education, and where our healthcare system serves all. Zimbabwe, our country! Zimbabwe, our motherland! We will never forget the sacrifices that gave us our freedom.
Let us rise up and demand the Zimbabwe we deserve. Let us unite and fight for the future our heroes envisioned. #WeMove”
