Tinotenda Hove – A violent clash over gossip took a horrifying turn when a 22-year-old man allegedly bit off part of another man’s nose during a heated confrontation in Jambezi.

Kelvin Ndebele, of Lukunguni village 1 under Chief Shana, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Victoria Falls magistrate Linda Dzvene on assault charges. He stands accused of attacking Nkosiyenzile Gumede (22) at Magrett Moyo’s homestead on July 3.

Prosecutor Portia Moyo told the court that the accused arrived at the homestead around 7am and aggressively accused Gumede of talking behind his back.

“He began by launching stones at the complainant using a catapult, striking him several times,” said Moyo. “When Gumede tried to defend himself, Ndebele bit him on the nose, tearing off a portion.”

The victim was rushed to hospital, and a medical report confirming the gruesome injury was submitted as evidence. Police swiftly arrested Ndebele following the incident.

The prosecution said Ndebele’s actions were deliberate and intended to cause serious bodily harm.

Magistrate Dzvene ordered that Ndebele remain in custody while awaiting sentencing. The shocking nature of the attack has left residents of Lukunguni reeling, with some describing it as one of the most disturbing assaults the community has witnessed.
