Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has taken decisive action, firing the country’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, Mac-Albert Hengari, following serious allegations of bribery and rape. Hengari’s arrest and subsequent dismissal come after accusations that he attempted to bribe a rape victim into not reporting the incident.

The president, known for her strong stance against corruption, has shown that she is committed to rooting out corruption within her government. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s swift response underscores her zero-tolerance approach to corruption, which contrasts with practices in some neighboring countries where corrupt officials are often shielded or even promoted.

In contrast to the situation in Namibia, where accountability is being enforced, Zimbabwe has seen instances where corrupt ministers are not only protected but sometimes rewarded, raising concerns about the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in the region.
