Tinotenda Hove- Mutsa Francisca Murombedzi, a proportional representation Member of Parliament for Mashonaland West elected in 2023, has strongly condemned the sexual assault of a schoolgirl in Zimbabwe.
Speaking on Monday, Murombedzi expressed her outrage over a video circulating online showing a girl being raped while in her school uniform.
“Our girls are under attack. I watched the video of a girl being raped in school uniform. She was hunted and violated where she should have been safe. This is a rupture in our social fabric. Schools must protect and not produce predators. She was a child,” Murombedzi said.
She called for urgent action to ensure justice for the victim and to foster a society that values and protects girls. “We demand justice, healing, and a culture that sees girls as sacred. The monsters who did this must be found, arrested, and locked away for a very long time. #EndRapeCulture,” she added.
Murombedzi also urged authorities, educators, and community leaders to strengthen safeguards in schools, promote awareness of gender-based violence, and implement stricter measures to prevent such horrific incidents in the future.
