Tinotenda Hove – Chikomba West Zanu PF MP and ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera has come under scrutiny for launching a soccer and netball tournament in her constituency today, raising questions about misplaced priorities.
Despite describing the event as a platform for “empowerment,” Mavetera took to Facebook to announce the launch with the vague post: “Today is the day !!!” Critics argue that such initiatives, while visually appealing, do little to address pressing local issues such as infrastructure decay, unemployment, and lack of basic services.
Observers noted that government ministers and MPs often use sports tournaments to boost public visibility rather than focus on meaningful developmental projects, with some labeling this as a diversion from urgent constituency needs.
Mavetera’s dual role as both legislator and ICT Minister has fueled further criticism, as constituents question whether government resources are being misallocated toward publicity exercises instead of tangible empowerment programs.
