Tinotenda Hove – A tragic accident claimed the life of a 10-year-old child on June 27, 2025, after an ox-drawn scotch cart overturned along a dusty road in Featherstone, police have confirmed.

According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the cart was being led by a 15-year-old male juvenile and had one passenger on board when the incident occurred. The scotch cart reportedly struck a tree, causing it to overturn once.

The young victim sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Chivhu General Hospital. Sadly, they were pronounced dead upon admission.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and have emphasized the importance of adult supervision when minors are handling animals or operating ox-drawn carts.

The community has expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, which highlights the dangers of allowing underage individuals to operate traditional transport without proper oversight.
